Sanitary Sewer

Sewer Lines
Graded, Bedded, Tight

Sanitary sewer work has zero margin for error. Gravity-fed lines need precise slope — too flat and solids settle, too steep and liquid runs ahead of solids and you get clogs. Joints have to be tight, bedding has to be right, and it all has to pass inspection the first time.

Corbett's Contracting installs commercial sanitary sewer across Wilmington and Southwest Ohio for new construction, building additions, restaurant expansions, and tie-ins to municipal systems. Building laterals, main line extensions, cleanout installation, and grease-service lines.

We grade to plan using laser levels, bed the pipe properly, and pressure or camera-test the line before closing the trench.

Worth Knowing

Why Grade & Bedding Decide Sewer Lifespan

Sanitary sewer failures almost always trace back to two things: wrong slope or bad bedding. We take both seriously.

Proper SlopeMinimum 1/4" per foot fall for 4" lines, 1/8" per foot for larger. Laser-leveled, measured, verified.
Pipe BeddingSand or pea gravel cradle under the pipe, not dirt with rocks. Prevents point loads that crack the line later.
Joint IntegritySolvent-welded or gasketed joints made per manufacturer spec. No shortcuts on connections.
Inspection ReadyPressure test or camera inspection before backfill, with documentation for the AHJ and your records.
Commercial FAQ

Questions Before You Bid It Out

What slope does a commercial sewer line need?
Typical 4-inch building sewer requires 1/4 inch per foot of fall. Larger diameter lines (6", 8") run at 1/8 inch per foot. Slope is laser-leveled and verified before backfill.
Can you tie into an existing municipal sanitary main?
Yes. Municipal sanitary main taps are standard commercial work and are coordinated with the local wastewater authority. Permitting is included in the bid.
Do restaurants need a separate grease line?
Yes — kitchen fixtures with grease-producing waste (sinks, dishwashers, floor drains in kitchens) should route through a dedicated grease line to a grease interceptor, separate from sanitary waste from restrooms and office areas.
Do you coordinate with septic contractors or do full septic installs?
For commercial projects on septic, we handle the trenching, bedding, and utility lateral work. Full septic tank and field installation is typically a specialty septic contractor's scope, and we coordinate with them.
What happens if an inspection fails?
We schedule a follow-up, make the correction, and re-inspect. Inspections typically pass first time because of how we grade, bed, and test — but we own the fix if something comes back.
