Water Where It Belongs

Stop the Standing Water, Protect the Foundation

If water's pooling in your yard, running toward your foundation, eroding the landscaping, or killing your grass — you've got a drainage problem, and it's not going to fix itself. Corbett's Contracting installs drainage solutions across Wilmington, Ohio and surrounding areas that actually move water where it needs to go.

We diagnose the actual cause (most drainage issues aren't what the homeowner thinks they are), then build the right system to fix it — French drains, yard drains, downspout tie-ins, re-grading, swales, and foundation drainage. Done right, once, so you're not dealing with it again next spring.

Proper drainage protects your foundation, your driveway, your landscaping, and the long-term value of your property. Worth doing right.

Systems That Actually Work

Different problems call for different solutions — here's what we install.

01

French Drains

Perforated pipe in a gravel trench that collects groundwater and moves it away from problem areas. The classic fix for saturated yards.

02

Yard Drains & Catch Basins

Surface drains at low spots that capture pooling water and tie into an underground pipe to get it out of the yard.

03

Downspout Tie-Ins

Underground pipe connecting your gutters to a proper discharge point — no more splash blocks dumping water against the foundation.

04

Grading for Drainage

Regrading yards and slopes to move surface water away from structures. Often the cheapest and most effective fix.

05

Foundation Drainage

Exterior footing drains, waterproofing tie-ins, and the perimeter drainage that keeps basements dry.

06

Swales & Surface Channels

Shallow graded channels that redirect sheet water across a property. Cheap, effective, and invisible once landscaped.

Signs You Need Drainage Work

If any of these are on your property, we can fix it.

Standing Water in the Yard

Puddles that sit for days after rain — usually a combo of grading and soil compaction. Fixable.

Wet Basement or Crawl Space

Almost always a drainage issue outside the home, not inside. We find the surface cause.

Erosion Around Downspouts

Trenches, washed-out mulch, dirt on the sidewalk — downspouts dumping way too much water.

Cracked or Settling Concrete

Slab settling is often a water problem. Fix the drainage before the next concrete job.

Dead Grass in Low Spots

Constantly saturated areas kill turf. Drainage + grading brings the lawn back.

Water Near the Foundation

The most urgent one. Water against the foundation is the #1 cause of basement and structural problems.

FAQ

Drainage Questions

What's the difference between a French drain and a yard drain?
French drains collect groundwater (water below the surface) through perforated pipe in gravel, great for saturated areas or foundation perimeters. Yard drains (catch basins) collect surface water (puddles and runoff) through a grate. Most properties with serious drainage issues benefit from both.
How long does drainage installation take?
Simple downspout tie-ins or single French drains can be done in 1-2 days. Larger systems with multiple catch basins, longer trenches, or foundation work run 3-5 days. We'll give you a real timeline in the written estimate.
Where does the water go?
Depends on the site — ideally daylight drainage to a lower spot on the property, a dry well, a street gutter, or an existing storm drain if available and allowed. We scope this as part of the estimate so you know exactly where water's going to end up.
Will you tear up my whole yard?
We dig a trench, not the entire yard. There'll be a disturbed strip along the trench route that needs to re-seed or re-sod, but we minimize disruption. We also replace and compact dirt properly so you're not dealing with settling sinkholes later.
Can drainage issues affect my concrete work?
Absolutely. Water under a slab is the fastest way to crack, heave, or settle concrete. If we're pouring a driveway or patio and there's a drainage problem, we address it first — otherwise the new slab has a short lifespan.
